HISTORY

Little Acorns was established in January 2005 by a group of parents from the Balnamore area, to provide a social meeting place for those with children 0-4 years.

Our main aim is to provide a safe and friendly environment for pre-school children and their parents/carers, and to arrange activities to enhance their social, emotional and physical development.

We meet each Tuesday morning from 10am – 12 noon in Balnamore Community Centre and a warm welcome is guaranteed to anyone wishing to come along!

ACHIEVEMENTS

As a new group, Little Acorns have been very fortunate to have received funding for various projects (such as outings, furniture, community education etc.) from a variety of sources.

· Ballymoney Borough Council has been very supportive of our group, for which we are very grateful.

· Awards for All approved a grant application for quite a substantial amount, enabling us to purchase nursery sized furniture, toys and equipment, arts & crafts materials, also to pay the rent, insurance and other bills.

· Women Caring Trust provided money for books and safety equipment.

· Causeway Volunteer Bureau contributed to training, subsistence and sweatshirts.

All these funders have helped immensely and it is thanks to them that Little Acorns continues to flourish.

ACTIVITIES

Little Acorns provide a variety of activities such as craft sessions, information visits, sing-a-longs, outings and computer classes. To date, with the help and support of Causeway Institute Community Education Department, almost 35 parents and friends have received tuition on various computer courses. We hope to continue these classes and also to provide recreational courses through the Causeway Institute, as this is a very cost effective way to provide an enjoyable learning experience.

Ballymoney Community Resource Centre have always helped and supported our Management Committee, ever ready with encouragement and advice. BCRC have also recommended and provided various training courses, which have been a great help to the group. Hopefully this will continue in the future!

A big THANK YOU must go to each and every one of the funders and professional bodies who have supported Little Acorns. Without them we would not be here today….. and we plan to be around for a VERY LONG TIME!!!! Watch this space ………….. Why don’t you come along and join us???
