HISTORY
Dunloy Comhaltas has 12 years experience in event planning, training & musical education classes from beginners level to championship level, organising traditional sessions, facilitating workshops and network visits to other Comhaltas branches to cross – fertilise knowledge and skills in music, song and dance.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Organising the Centenary Antrim Fleadh in its 100th year. The festival is hosted by 5 different locations on a rotational basis. The festival has been promoted through local support in encouraging music learning and celebration of musical traditions.
The Antrim Fleadh showcases local and national talent and provides a country cultural event, which is attractive to visitors. The festival is a real boost to the local economy and advertising of services within the village of Dunloy and beyond. The workshops and showcase of talent provides a feel good factor and pride in our local community through school arts exhibitions etc.
Antrim Fleadh is a cross community, cross cultural event and involves adults and children of all ages and denominations. The festival is an opportunity to establish good relations through combining force of music – the project is ‘interest’ led i.e. Music, special invites is sent to groups and other church representatives to improve community relations.
ACTIVITIES
Comhaltas Dun Lathai has ten strong management committee members who meet on a monthly basis to organise the annual festival in their host year. The festival requires at least 40 additional volunteers to supervise events and competitions.
