Club Ealaíne Dhún Lathaí - Dunloy Art Club |
HISTORY
Club Ealaíne Dhún Lathaí started some 9 years ago by members of Comchoiste na Gaeilge, who were interested in the arts and saw the arts as a non confrontational way of introducing people to the Irish Language. Because of their intrinsic interest of the Irish Language, classes were and are of a bi-lingual nature. The class tutor throughout has been the very popular Claire McIlhatton / Glass.
ACHIEVEMENTS
Classes have been going on since 1996/7 with two fifteen week sessions yearly, these classes have been augmented with specialist weekend workshops with renounced Artists in their given medium or subject, these Artists include Charlie McGinley, Deirdre Ni Bhreannainn, David Willis, Gerald Bradley, Peter McCann, Julian Friers and many others. Club Ealaíne, along with a sister group in the Donegal Gealtacht area, organised cross border workshops usually three annually.
Members also organise and participate in most local Art Exhibitions; they have also produced ten impressionist style paintings for a World Premier Drama in London. Many more projects are planned or are in the planning stages.
ACTIVITIES
· Setting up an exhibition of our work in the An Cheardlann, Dunloy.
· Painting outdoor classes.
· A Boglands project with local artist Claire McIlhatton. We will be studying and painting our local bogland areas in North Antrim, aiming to record and preserve this part of our heritage.
· Trip to Tuscany with artist Peter McCann. Staying in Sienna and painting the surrounding beauty will be something new and exciting, while exploring museums and art galleries in the region will inspire us all.
